Pain Management
Pain is a common symptom of many neurologic conditions, but it doesn’t have to affect your quality of life. Marcus Neuroscience Institute now offers on-site pain management services to help you feel better.
Experts with our new Comprehensive Pain Center are focused on interventional pain management. This means our team works with other Marcus Neuroscience Institute doctors to customize your treatment plan based on your other medical needs.

What conditions are helped by our Comprehensive Pain Center?
Our team offers a range of pain management options for people with:
- Spine injury
- Neuromuscular disorders
- Spinal disorders
We also develop pain management plans for people undergoing brain or spine surgery or treatment for certain types of neurologic cancers.
Finding the cause of pain
To find the right pain treatment for you, our team works to understand what’s causing your pain. We do this by asking questions about your symptoms and your health history. Our team may also order blood tests, X-rays or other imaging tests—all performed here at our center—to look for problems that could be causing your pain.
How is pain treated at Marcus Neuroscience Institute?
Once the source of your pain is identified, our experts work together to develop a treatment plan. Pain management treatments we offer include:
- Epidurals
- Injections
- Medication therapy
- Radiofrequency ablation
- Spinal cord stimulation
We also work closely with our neurorehabilitation team and often recommend physical therapy as part of your pain management plan.
Our approach to pain management
At Marcus Neuroscience Institute’s Comprehensive Pain Center, patients meet directly with our board-certified pain medicine physician. This one-on-one attention gives you the chance to share your story and play an active role in developing a treatment plan that meets your needs.
Who benefits from pain management?
Anyone experiencing pain may benefit from a consultation with our Comprehensive Pain Center. Our team works with individuals who have chronic pain or those who develop pain due to certain treatments or changes in their condition.
What is radiofrequency ablation, and how is it used to treat pain?
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a procedure that uses radiofrequency energy to generate heat and destroy pain-causing nerve tissue.
RFA procedures are performed on site at our Comprehensive Pain Center. During RFA, a needle is positioned near the nerve being targeted. This needle is then used to pass a small electric current to stimulate and generate heat to the nerve. RFA procedures can take up 15 minutes, and patients are able to go home the same day.
How does spinal cord stimulation work?
Spinal cord stimulation uses an implanted device to deliver low levels of electricity directly to the spinal cord. These electrical impulses can reduce pain.
Patients with an implanted spinal cord stimulator use a remote control to deliver electrical impulses as needed.
